 The High Desert Emmaus West Community has plenty of opportunities to serve. Serving the Walk to Emmaus Community is a wonderful privilege and a great way to exercise (or discover) your spiritual gifts. The Emmaus Community is a para-church organization that is run by lay members of the various churches that receive the blessing of an empowered and motivated Body of Christ. Volunteers are the life blood of Emmaus. We have no paid directors or staff; we are composed of people who -- having been blessed on their Walk to Emmaus -- want to help share that blessing by blessing others. Options to serve include:

• Openings for 2009 & Board of Directors -- These are members that have worked at least one Walk and ensure that the spiritual and functional needs of the Walk to Emmaus are met. They are responsible for governance (policy formation) and management (day-to-day business & ministry team oversight) functions on behalf of the Community. Board Openings for 2008 include:

• Ministry Team Membership -- Ministry Teams provide for the the day-to-day operation and oversight of all critical Emmaus functions. Each Ministry team will consist of members from across our Emmaus Community who have shown a gifting and desire to advance a specific ministry. Ministry Teams will be chaired by a Board Member. We see this as the primary vehicle to broaden and improve our current capabilities in the following areas:
  • Gathering (Reunions) Ministry
  • Prayer & Nurture Ministry
  • Worship (music) Ministry
  • Facilities Ministry
  • Membership (Registrar) Ministry
  • Walk Records & Manuals Ministry

• Walk to Emmaus Teams -- All members of the global Emmaus Community are encouraged to serve on the Walk to Emmaus. New members are brought on as "Kooks" (Cook Team) to provide as broad a view of the Walk program and dynamics as possible. Other tasks include: Table Leader/s; Agape Team; Clergy Team; Music Team; Assistant Lay Directors; Speaker Team; Head & Assistant Cook and Sunday Angels (clean -up crew). • Walk to Emmaus Sponsorship -- Want to share your blessing most directly? Prayerfully consider Sponsorship. Sponsoring Pilgrims is a special responsibility. It begins with prayer for guidance from the Lord as to whom you might sponsor. Pilgrims are practicing Christians (Emmaus is not primarily a tool for Evangelism) who are involved in the life of their church or desire a role in the Body of Christ. Sponsors must be capable of paying the Pilgrim fee ($ 135.00); seeing to it that the Pilgrim has some notion of the Walk weekend and understands what to bring/not bring with them. The collection of Agape for Pilgrims is an additional and critical Sponsorship role. The Sponsor completes a Sponsor's & Candidate's Application to be mailed to the Community Registrar for prayer and approval of the Board.
